Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC Head Coach, Mark Simon Harrison has reacted with disappointment to his side’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of central region outfit, Kamuzu Barracks at Kasungu Stadium on Saturday. The Nomads’ Gaffer has bemoaned lack of consistency that is costing progress at the Lali Lubani Road.

His take on the result

“It’s very disappointing we threw it away. We have been punished by our mistakes. We dominated the game until they [Kamuzu Barracks] scored. After twenty minutes of the second half we could have been two or three nil up. We had chances to score but we didn’t take them. We like commiting suicide. We committed suicide against Chitipa, we committed suicide against Extreme and now these guys [Kamuzu Barracks]. We have lost three games to to teams we should never even lose to.”

On whether the condition of the pitch has contributed to the loss

“I don’t wanna make excuses obviously but everyone can see that it’s garbage! It’s no better than Mzuzu, it’s no better than Karonga and then you play super league game here. It’s not conducive, I mean it’s very difficult to get the ball on the floor and pass it. Everything is in the air, it’s like watching Tennis you know. But it’s not an excuse because we had enough chances to win the game.”

On what need to be done in the second round

“We just need to bring consistency to our game instead of doing well in a couple of games then we throw away a silly game.”

On whether he will need to beef up his squad in the next round

“You can always strengthen no matter who you are, make no mistake. Even Manchester City strengthens it’s squad. If the right player comes along we will look at it but there are no guarantees.”

The Nomads have finished the first round on position four with 28 points. They rally behind FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC who are at 29 points with one game to play, Chitipa United who are at 29 points and have completed their first round games and Silver Striker who currently have 28 points with two games to play before wrapping up their first round.

The Mukuru Boys will now shift their focus to FDH Bank Cup where they will rub shoulders with Zingwangwa United in the round of sixteen to be played at Kamuzu Stadium on 5th August, 2023.

  1. The Coach is 100% right on consistency , we have a good team , a good technical panel, good Sponsorship from Mukuru & Ekhaya. What more do we need.
