Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC Head Coach Mark Simon Harrison is cautious of little known Zingwangwa United ahead of the FDH Bank Cup round of 16 clash at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday. The Englishman spoke to the Club Media on Saturday regarding his side’s level of preparedness, injury update and the status of Francisco Madinga

On his team’s preparedness against Zingwangwa United

We don’t really know much about the opposition. But we do know they will come fired up, probably not to win the cup themselves but their glory is to beat Mighty Wanderers and so we need to be aware of that and we need to be ready for it. I have warned the players this week that we can’t enter the game with complacency, we have to go out there firing on all cylinders.

On Wanderers’ scoring problems

If you watch our games, every game we end up missing chance after chance especially when we have opportunities to kill teams off. If you look at our statistics, we have got the best goal defence record in the league but we are sitting fourth, two points behind Bullets. It’s not lack of creating opportunities, we create many opportunities, we don’t just finish. In training we work on our finishing, we work on the players’ mental approach as well. I think in the end when the opportunity is coming, it’s alittle bit of lack of concentration. The players need to concentrate alittle bit more inside the box and take care to finish properly. If we did that, we would be sitting clearly on top of the league because the games we have lost against KB [Kamuzu Barracks], Extreme and Chitipa, we had many opportunities in those games to finish those teams before they even looked our goal. That’s a frustration and something we are continuously working on.

He is a good talent and he has good quality. He will only make it better if we get him. We are in negotiations with him and hopefully we finalize with him early next week. But look he is a Wanderers guy and let’s hope he remains a Wanderers guy.

On the status of injuries

We are still carrying injuries. Lawrence [Chaziya] is injured, Mphatso [Kamanga] is injured and Chris [Kumwembe] is injured. Gaddie [Chirwa] is back on his feet now which is good news. I am hoping Lawrence will be fit for the next game, next week but the other Chris and Mphatso I think are still a couple of weeks away.

The Nomads head to Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday to face Zingwangwa United with the hope of progressing into the last 8 of the FDH Bank Cup. The Lali Lubani Boys are yet to taste the glory of FDH Bank Cup which was introduced in 2021. Last year, they reached in the last four of the cup but didn’t progress into the finals at the hands of Nyasa Big Bullets FC. Should the Mark Harrison men reach quarter finals on Sunday, they will face Santhe Admarc which showed the exit door to Kamuzu Barracks FC.

  1. Welcome back madinga komano asewele Malo ake because tikumavutika kamba osewela ena mukuwapasanmalo woti sanazolowe tikunkhulupilila madinga akasewela Malo ake eni eni abwelesa zosatila zabwino komaso pa msika pakufunika ndinthu olo atakambilana ndi idana tingakondwe ndinthu

  2. The coach is very honest and what he says is very true. We miss alot of scoring opportunities, that’s why our goals scored are far from what bullets have. Sometimes where points are level with your opponents, goal difference rule comes in. In our case we can’t compete well on that one because we have scored less goals than other teams.

We need to have sharp and aggressive strikers upfront like the Ronaldo, Messi and Mbappe. As a team, we don’t have those sharp strikers at the moment. We need to find one or two, or train the current strikers on how to do it.

Otherwise as a team we are playing a very good and entertaining football nowadays. Thanks to the technical panel.

  3. It’s gud to resign madina coz he is gud player on the pitch not on the paper.

Let me advise u dat u are supposed to fire some of aged players so that we should have space for young players to get position and minimize outtake of financial.

On Sunday’s game,,,, let me talk to our players that u must make work hard,,, u must take zingwangwa as a big team
Coz it’s them whose know your playing

  4. We have quality players on the land. The only problem is committment. The boys need to approach the game with seriousness.
