Issac Kaliati’s well curved second half free kick was enough for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers to beat Mafco FC 1-0 on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium.
The Nomads coming from a 4-0 down to Nyasa Big Bullets in the FDH Bank Cup put up a spirited perfomance on Saturday afternoon having made some changes in their first 11.
For instance injured Stanely Sanudi was replaced by a Reserve Side product,Ahamadu Kung’unde.
Kung’unde had an outstanding game and it was not suprising when he was voted man of the match.
In goals,Richard Chipuwa paved the way for Pilirani Mapira, while on defending midfield,Peter Cholopi replaced Francis Mkonda, who was serving yellow cards.
Cholopi commanded his new role,as an army commander that Mafco was kept on a tight rope.
In defence,Coach Alex Ngwira banked his hopes on Miracle Gabeya, Joseph Balakasi and Kung’unde.
Despite his debut for the senior side,Kung’unde was a marvel to watch as he defended with confidence. The young man was responsible in keeping Richard Mbulu on a tight corner that he failed to tick.
Felix Zulu, who put on arm band was responsible to feed balls to Muhamad Sulumba,Misheck Botomani and Vincent Nyangulu, while Issac Kaliat and Yamikani Chester operated from the wings.
The Nomads could have burried the game in the first half with so many chances, and notable ones from Muhamad Sulumba and Nyangulu.
Sulumba and Nyanguru lacked composure infront of the goal as they shoot wide on several occassions with the goalkeeper,Blessings Kameza to beat.
Come second half, the Nomads made some changes bringing in Chiukepo Msowoya,Wisdom Mpinganjira for Sulumba and Botomani.
Msowoya had also two scoring chances which could not be ultilised as goals.
In this half,Nyangulu as well was out of office as he failed to convert a Kaliati’s chocolate pass.
However,it was Kaliati who inflicted pain to the Salima based soldiers with a bend it like Kaliat’s free kick after a foul on Chester
.
The visitors tried to secure an equalizer, but the Nomads were solid in all the the departments.
After the last whistle,it was Olire manoma olire manoma,as the supporters danced while escorting the team bus to Lali Lubani Road, which is the home for the Nomads.
With Saturdays victory, the Nomads moved to fourth position with 40 points from 21 games.
