Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC on Sunday 14th August, 2022 produced a second half fierce performance to force a 3-3 against their arch rivals Nyasa Big Bullets at the soccer mecca Kamuzu Stadium.
It was a blantyre derby that lived to it’s billing.
There was nothing to write about until on 25th minute when Bullets drew first blood after a mistake by Felix Zulu left Nkhoma Lanjesi to easily slot home an assist from Ernest Petro to make it 1-0 to Bullets.
After the goal Wanderers were under pressure and under siege throughout the first half.
After half an hour, Bullets Patrick Mwaungulu who gave Ted Sumani at the back some tough examinations, dribbled past Ted and fired home the second goal to put the game at 2-0 to Bullets. “Mapale” were over the moon and jumping and dancing in the stands.
Wanderers Defense and midfield lacked coordination to contain Nyasa Big Bullets.
However, on 36th minute, an advancing Vincent Nyangulu was brought down in the box by Bullets Goalkeeper Clever Mkungula prompting referee to award a penalty to Wanderers.
Stanley Sanudi stepped up and scored for Wanderers giving some hope to the Wanderers fans. 1-2 it ended in the first half.
4 minutes into the second half, Wanderers defense got exposed again as they watched Chimwemwe Idana move with the ball to slot in a beautiful goal to put the game at 1-3 and almost looked impossible for Wanderers to come back.
Noticing danger and possible humiliation, Coach Ngwira of Wanderes made 5 substitutions. Francisco Mkonda, Misheck Botoman, Josephy Balakasi, Vitumbiko Kumwenda and Muhammad Sulumba were brought in for Chiukepo Msowoya, Vincent Nyangulu, Alfred Manyozo, Ted Sumani and Isaac Kaliati.
The game changed and Wanderers started knocking on Bullets door minute after minute. Mkonda, Yamikani Chester and Vitumbiko Kumwenda displayed fantastic football and it was no wonder that Wanderers pulled another goal on 74th minute through Miracle Gabeya who heades home to put the game at 2-3 in favour of Bullets.
It was an all Wanderers affair in the second half as they kept playing the ball in Bullets half for a better part in the last 40minutes.
With 4 minutes to go and some fans leaving the stadium, a powerful header from Mohammad Sulumba left Bullets goalkeeper helpless as he watched the ball hitting the net. 3-3 it was and Wanderers fans went krazy.
In added time, Yamikani Chester almost finished Bullets off with a fine curvy shot but it went wide.
The Ref blew the whistle to mark the end of the game and Wanderers fans danced and jumped in the fans while Bullets fans were still sitting in their stands in disbelief.
It was a match that was hard to choose man of the match among Miracle Gabeya, Yamikani Chester and Francis Mkonda.
Yellow Cards: Yamikani Chester 33′
First 11: Pilirani Mapira, Adeleke Kolawole, Miracle Gabeya, Ted Sumani, Alfred Manyozo, Felix Zulu, Stanley Sanudi, Isaac Kaliati, Yamikani Chester, Vincent Nyangulu, Chiukepo Msowoya

It was indeed a derby worthy seeing. Though I was not happy the coach started Manyozo instead of Bakilinho. It’s high time we started using young boys.
I personally compliment the good work that boys displayed. They showcased a passion to triumph only that they conceded too many en early goals.
It’sy sincere hope that come on Saturday, we gonna show KB an exit door 🚪 of FDH. Let’s maintain the fire 🔥 that boys displayed n second half en to us supporters, we are behind you
Well articulated, I have enjoyed as if I was @ The soccer mecca, though I was really looking for a win,but I better thank the players for a gallant fight
